How to choose
How to choose a service or activity
go2do was created to make it easier for young people to find things to do in Surrey. We can show you what is out there but we can't recommend services or guarantee their quality.
Before you use any of the services listed on go2do we suggest that you check them out and if you are under 18 you may want to tell your parents what you are doing. A good organisation will be very happy to answer questions about their service. Here is a list of things you may want to ask.
- What are the staff/volunteers like? Are they friendly? How much experience do they have? Do they have regular training? Have they been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau?
- Does the service expect your parent/carer to come with you to the activity or can you go on your own?
- If other people use the service what are they like? Are they mainly male or female? How old are they?
- If you have to travel to the service make sure you have the right address. Check what time you will be going home and ask if the area is safe. Does public transport still run at that time? If you are driving or being driven is it easy to park?
- Do you need special skills to be able to use the service? For example, for a water ski course, do you need to be able to swim?
- How much does it cost? Is that per hour, per session, per week?
- Do you need any special equipment or clothing?
- How do staff make sure the people using their service are safe? You don't want to be bullied, or experience racism, sexism or taunts regarding disability.
- Does the organisation have a health and safety policy? Find out if there is a leader qualified in first aid. Is the building safe and secure?
- Is the service accredited or affiliated to any professional body, or a registered charity?
